Though it’s not the popular notion, I am convinced that Reeves took his own life in a momentary combination of drunkenness, embarrassment, and what suicidologists call “psychic pain.” Despite what most people seem to believe, the forensic evidence in the case points far beyond a reasonable doubt to suicide of an impulsive nature. Heart attacks are mainly caused by the combination of performance-enhancing drugs and medications, namely anabolic/androgenic steroids, human growth hormone, insulin, and possibly diuretics. Recreational drugs such as cocaine are sometimes in the mix as well.
Site enhancement oils, such as Synthol, are used in tiny, inconspicuous amounts to “fill the gaps,” so to speak, a few weeks out before a competition. Life-threatening side effects are rare and only possible with ultra-cretinous overuse (e.g., Gregg Valentino and that fool from Brazil, to name a couple).
Extreme 10,000-plus calories a day diets, consisting of piles of animal meat and starchy carbs, while fruits and vegetables are hardly touched, may be an attributing factor as well, but that’s on the bottom of the list. It’s ultimately the drugs that are responsible for the untimely deaths in professional bodybuilding.
