What does a black profile picture mean?
It could mean that a person feels stressed and alone or is going through tough times since I often use the black profile on social media.
But it’s just my experience
There is no one answer to this question, as the meaning of a black profile picture can vary depending on the context and situation.
However, some common interpretations could include that the person is mourning or in pain, that they are feeling dark or depressed, or that they want to be seen as serious or tough.
Alternatively, a black profile picture could be used as an aesthetic choice to convey a certain mood or vibe.
A lot of cover pictures on FB have gone black, and I’ve never sensed any of the answers listed here once as being the reason. I’m not too hip, but I associate the all-black with that Patriots Act in a way; it’s like a bunch of supposed “vigilantes” acting together to rid the world of (or the streets of) whatever it is that they do not welcome (most are not actual veterans themselves but try to keep true to the good ol American eye for an eye standpoint/ maybe/ I hope) when the supposed degenerates or unwanted people are breaking no laws. They won’t be hanging themselves anytime soon; sometimes, there are people groups, haters groups, stalkers, etc. All somewhat join together to try to drive them out of their area; it’s like taking back the streets without cops’ help (or maybe they use cops’ help, who knows), ridding the area of filthy riff-raff by networking and joining forces in the neighbourhoods and communities. Pummeling target spots to get them to throw up their arms and leave. Kick cars. Whatever you want to call it.
It would be a good thing if it weren’t just a bunch of older aged rip-offs and thieves looking for excuses to wax hard-working mfs asses while they’re away or asleep or in the privacy of their bedroom. Not once will one state their case, standpoint, or any details to the supposed due torment. They’ll act like there’s a reason for it but never say one word. Flying them flags proud- like true patriots, my eye.
In pirate days, all black flown was a wage of war indicating to whomever they were approaching that if they wanted to live, they could surrender their weapons and be spared their life = as opposed to a black flag with cross and bones, which means nothing less than destruction is about to occur no matter what they surrender.
That’s just the sense I’ve been getting for years or more. A woman thinks it is not. Unless you’re talking pink bandana women, if you can even refer to them as women, they’re more like the little canary they use when checking confined spaces. The jerk rips the partner up. Idgaf, yep, I said it. Buh oh

Is your profile photo an actual photo of you?
Yes. It is my picture.

I was walking when my boyfriend asked me to stop immediately; I took my phone and clicked this one. Hence, the smile.
He later told me that the light was perfect and I was looking beautiful then 🙂
It is, and it will be a special picture because of the moment when it was clicked!
No, it isn’t.

This is a fat giraffe.
Why use a fat giraffe, you ask?
I needed a picture that would best represent me since I’m tall and fat.
I searched and searched and almost gave up. There’s no perfect picture, as there isn’t a perfect girlfriend. But then, one day, I came across that masterpiece. We instantly clicked together and have been together ever since.
I’m talking about the picture, not the girlfriend…

What does a black profile picture mean?
Changing my profile picture to a black square forced me to talk with myself and reflect on what I saw on the news. As a white woman, I understand that I will never fully understand how we got here, but I’m here to listen, and I’m here to learn. If one of my Black colleagues or neighbours needs to talk or wants to share their experiences with me, I have all the time in the world to listen. We can’t move forward and make positive changes in the Treasure Valley and communities beyond without seeing racial injustice and inequality through their eyes. Embrace the opportunity to have these important talks with love and compassion.

What does it mean if someone has a black profile picture?
A black profile picture can convey many things, but to narrow it down with no further hiccups, I will list it below:-
- Doesn’t want to share the real or any imaginary profile pic. Want to be Anonymous!!!
- Profile with an image, either a selfie or some other avatar, can invite mocking comments or questions from other users.
- User with Black profile want to keep a low profile and doesn’t want the world to know who they are in real life.
- Users with Black profiles try to convey wanting to live in their own space and don’t want the world to mess around with them.
- Last and Most importantly, since Black colour symbolises the below
- Power, elegance, sophistication, status, formality. Evil, death, grief, mourning, the occult. Mystery, bleakness, heaviness, depression, rebellion, fear.. etc..
One of the reasons might represent the current situation of the user using Black as his or her profile picture.
What does your profile picture stand for?
Easy.

It’s a frozen calculator.
Seems inconspicuous?
Wrong.
If it’s frozen, we’d naturally assume it’s cold.
And what’s the only thing a calculator is good at? Calculating.
The picture describes me quite accurately: I can be cold and calculating, especially regarding what I would do if placed in hypothetical scenarios.
Also, picture pun!
The Frozen Calculator continues to live on. There’s been multiple different iterations of it ever since I wrote this answer:

I’m so cool that I’m a frozen calculator. Don’t ask; follow my lead.
EDIT: I removed pictures of the newer iterations due to Moderation collapsing this answer.
What makes someone change their profile picture to complete blackness?
It can be because they’re sad or feeling betrayed. I’ve done this when I felt betrayed by a lot of people. It’s when we can’t trust someone to open up. Or else it can be just for attention.
If a girl removes her profile picture from social media, does that mean she is sad or depressed?
Sometimes Yes. Social media has become a new platform for people to express themselves. Removing pictures can mean they are trying to hide their anxiety. When people are happy, they can put their brightest picture. Other times, they hide their fears in them.
Is it abnormal for a person to put a black picture as their Facebook profile picture for fun if there is nobody who died?
My answer is a bit off-topic but still about the black profile picture. I dont get why people have to make an effort to change their profile to Black just because they are grieving or somebody close to them has died. Is it because subconsciously you want others to emphasise or sympathise with you and comment on your black pic, “condolence this” or “condolence that”? Why not just post a picture of that person and say something about him/her and how much you would miss him/her?
Scenario:
I’m not feeling too good today. It’s like everything is not going my way. It’s depressing. Hmmmmmmm.. 💡 Tada! I will change my profile to Black so that my friends would ask me if I’m fine, they would console me, they would worry about me…
Like, really? It’s childish. I never changed my profile to Black for any reason.
What are some pictures (without text) with deep meaning(s)?
- Fake love and care 🙁

2. Two different gifts.

3. Father’s sacrifices.

4. •••

5. Media’s truth.

6. Hard work.

7. People Nowadays…

8. Mother Nature…

9. Cell phone family…

10. Future one day 🙁

Why have some teen Quorans turned their profile pictures black?
- They know something we don’t, like that crazy homeless dude holding a sign claiming “the end is near” or that neighbour who sprinkles rice over his lawn. They’ve predicted an apocalypse and are preparing.
- They’ve converted into a cult, and these are their ceremonial robes. The password to their clubhouse is “Venn diagram wammy spammy.”
- Ethan James went to pee, and they’re donning black clothes to mourn his loss and pray for his return.
- They’re not real. You know the aliens in Invasion of the Body Snatchers who replaced all the humans? That’s what’s happening.
- After watching ten straight hours of Ben Shapiro debates, they can finally say that they have risen above the intelligence level of normal teenagers.
- Classic herd mentality
- I can’t say much because my pic shows me wearing shorts and crouching with two cats.
Does a black profile picture mean they want to be alone or don’t want people to talk to them?
I typically use Black as my profile pic for these reasons:
- I am not comfortable sharing my face
- I don’t know what I would want as my profile
- It isn’t easy to make fun of someone for their profile pic if they dont have one
Coming from my eyes, I think people are either too lazy to fit their likings and personalities into a profile picture, too lazy to put a profile picture, or self-diagnosed depressed teens looking for attention.
It is to hide their identity. Or even their faces because of
- They don’t want you to know it’s not who you think they are. (worst case scenario)
- They are self-conscious and don’t like pictures of themselves and don’t want others to see them. Think they need to be more handsome or pretty.
- You’re talking to someone online and need a picture of their appearance.
- I’m sure they stimulate your mind, give you good feelings, and tell you you are the most beautiful person in the world.
- But what are they hiding and making excuses like if you saw me, you wouldn’t like me?
- Just out of caution, don’t send money, give your address, or say you will be somewhere. Or meet up alone. You could have a stalker or person who is not the age they say they are. And don’t send nude pics. If you don’t show me a pic with your name and date, I won’t talk to you anymore.
- But even if he does send a pic, how would you know if it is him? Sadly, too many females get swept up. In scams and predators. Please be careful
Why did Becky Butz change her profile picture?
Um…because she wanted to? Everyone has a right to change their profile picture, even popular Quorans.
If she wants to change her picture to a butt crack, she has the right to; simple as that.
What does a black circle around my profile picture on Instagram mean?
I’ve noticed a strange activity on my Instagram. I see a black circle around my profile picture (I know that the coloured circle means a new story and the green circle means close friends). I see it every time I go to my profile, and the black circle around my profile picture is on the bottom right side.
Sometimes it is not there. What does that mean? Is it a greyed-out account/restriction? Or does anyone know what it might be?
I have reinstalled the app and enabled 2FA, but the issue persists. Any idea?
How did you pick your profile picture? What makes a good one?
I paid a really good photographer.
For headshots. She managed to make me look not scary. I picked a black and white one that came out pretty well. It is high contrast, closely cropped, and thus reads well when small. I use it on every site where personal branding matters to me. I have more fun with my Facebook or purely social sites. Sometimes, I use this one my daughter shot of my Halloween outfit from a few years back.
I use that one for the class I teach. Have got to keep those kids in line, you know. I am the one who grades.
If people change their profile Pic and update their status to show their sympathies for some incident, do these acts bring any change?
I do not think so!
Focusing on the work at hand and moving on with life is more important.
Do something for yourself and others, and make this world better.
Sympathies need to be converted to action!
Why is everybody changing their profile picture to a letter with a solid colour background?
People don’t choose these profile pics themselves; this is the default on sites like YouTube (and all Google sites), Kijiji, and some other places. If someone has a profile pic like this, they haven’t uploaded any picture of their own, so the website uses the default for them.
I like sites that use “first initial + random colour” as a default since it makes it easier to tell people apart than with the older “silhouette of a person” default pic that Facebook and other sites still use.
If a person *used to* have an actual profile pic and has gone back to the default, I can think of two possibilities why that might happen: 1. They deleted their picture, which makes the site revert to the default, or 2. It might be a temporary glitch where the website couldn’t load the chosen profile pic for some reason, and it will probably get fixed soon, or it might just need you to refresh the page.
What do you think of my current profile picture?
Hey Jess!
It’s very blue.
It looks nothing like you.
I can see a bit of a joke as it says ‘The Upright Towers of Pisa’. I guess it’s a personal choice. I prefer my Pisa Towers with a bit of a lean.
Did you know the Tower of Pisa took over 200 years to complete?
Did you know it came from a Greek meaning “marshy land”?
Did you know that if my wife said “O’Neill” while we were in bed, I would say, “Who the hell is Neil?!” and then we’d get into a big fight?
So there you have it! You have a brand new profile picture and learned a few interesting facts about the Tower of Pisa and the knowledge that your last name may have caused one or more divorces!
What does it mean when someone has a black profile picture?
My Thought:
The user says they are for the “Black Lives Matter” Movement.
Google says,
“ A black profile and cover photo have been said to be part of a social media campaign against domestic violence.”
What does a checkmark next to someone’s profile picture mean?
It means they’re verified. It’s like Twitter. If a celebrity has a Twitter, the check next to their name means they’re that celebrity. The same goes for celebrities on Quora. Take Barack Obama, for example:

That check mark beside his name means he’s the actual Barack Obama, not some phoney trying to get off as him.
So the little check next to someone’s profile picture means that if they’re a celebrity, they’re that celebrity.
What does your profile picture mean? Is that real?
My profile pictures mean to send my messages to the one I love. I can’t tell him directly how I feel about him because I know if I tell him directly, he might ignore it and become an issue; although he knows that I am very much in love with him, lately, we remain as FRIENDS, but my heart won’t stop loving and missing him every day. Most of the time, I pray that I can stop loving him and just become a part of my life and a big lesson learned from my experience.
Most of the time, I changed my profile pictures to let him know what I feel inside, although he doesn’t even care, and that’s the saddest part.
So if you don’t want to get hurt or be sad every day, never give your heart to the wronged one because we never know if he or she really deserves to be loved or just a visitor who came across to our life to give us a lesson that we never expect and we never deserved.
Is your profile picture multiversal?
No. Not in the sense of this question.
Diana exists in almost every universe. In that regard, she is multiversal. Most of the heroes are if you consider the question this way.

Is she multiversal in terms of power? No. Never was even universal. Thank God for not going this route with Di. It would be utterly boring and cliché.
In some temporary plot required instances? Yeah, she was brief and not because of her skill set.

But in general, Wonder Woman never was. And I love it that way.
Which type of profile picture do we have to set on Facebook?
Well, use one in which you look good. Or DON’T.
People on F.B. are so obsessed with hitting on random people and chatting day in and day out they probably wouldn’t notice you haven’t shaved in your latest D.P.
So, for boys :
Click when CRAZY!
Click when IN OFFICE!
Click when INDIA WINS!
It simply doesn’t matter.
For girls :
It has the same options but is followed by a range of undiscovered filter apps. 😛

Why do some people prefer a blank dp on WhatsApp?
There are a few reasons why some people prefer to have a blank dp on WhatsApp.
For one, not having any picture can be seen as more professional or formal.
Additionally, some people might not want others to know too much about them, and having no picture allows for more privacy.
Lastly, some people might not be interested in photography or taking pictures and would rather have a blank space on their profile.
How does changing the profile picture to purple-red on Facebook support the people of Paris?
Originally Answered: How does changing the profile picture to purple-red on Facebook support the people of Paris?
Changing your dp (display picture, aka profile picture) to purple, white and red signifies that you support/empathise with France in this tragedy. The colours signify the three colours on their national flag. This gesture is becoming more common as you probably would remember changing our DP’s to saffron, white and green in support of Digital India when Mr Modi met Mark Zuckerberg.
P.S. Here is what Paris did in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks to show their support.

What’s your WhatsApp profile picture right now? Is there any special reason behind it?
This

This Pic was taken when my and wife were aboard the Angriya Cruise (the first Cruise line to travel within India at that time)
This is a Very Special Pic
Reason?
We were married a bit soon as per ISAFM ( Indian Standard Age for Marriage Act (year))
We could easily travel abroad for honeymoon after even my wife wanted to ( though she never brought that on her face)
All my cousins and friends were eager to know the name of the overseas Destination.
It is not the Destination that matters, but the journey ~ Baba Ranchoddas shymadas chanced.
It was Goa then,
But I planned the journey differently.
We have used almost all modes of transport in that journey ( Air, Water, land, Rail, etc..)
All the plans surprised her, and she liked the cruise very much. I rarely click my pictures, but she clicked this on Angriya, and I liked it too.
It was no doubt awesome, and guess what? My wife liked it so much
Edit 1: Here is the Vlog that I shot on the journey
Does a black profile picture mean they want to be alone or don’t want people to talk to them?
If there is no picture, or a black picture or an anime or abstract entity as a profile picture, then surely the person doesn’t wish to disclose his or her identity for some reason.
The reasons could be his or her preference; the person is reserved, probably wishes to keep his or her profile private or inactive, probably feels it might be used for some nasty purpose which can be avoided, lack of trust in public on social media or something similar.

The picture doesn’t relate to the state demanding them to be left alone, nor does it say they don’t want to talk to people. That’s my perception. Instead, it’s always best to ask such people their preferences.
I hope I answered your query.
Regards,
Yash Wagle
It is to hide their identity. Or even their face because of
- They don’t want you to know it’s not who you think they are. (worst case scenario)
- They are self-conscious and don’t like pictures of themselves and don’t want others to see them. Think they need to be more handsome or pretty.
- I take it you’re talking to someone online and don’t have a picture of what they look like.
- I’m sure they stimulate your mind, give you good feelings, and tell you you are the most beautiful person in the world.
- But what are they hiding and making excuses like if you saw me, you wouldn’t like me?
- Just out of caution, don’t send money, give your address or say you will be somewhere.
It depends on person to person. Some people might find that they had put that profile picture for a long and then they just put a black profile, like there’s nothing put on, so yeah, put do that when they have no pictures with him/her to put on. Some people do that to show that they are emotionless; for example, they might have a profile picture of themselves where they are smiling, so anyone views it gives the impression that he/she is happy, so they change their profile picture to black one, pretend that they are sad. But every person shouldn’t think of Black as a negative colour; black brings vintage and classic value to an image. I recently found this awesome website named Blackew; they have put valuable content about Black. Please make sure to check their website 😃
What makes someone change their profile picture to complete blackness?
What does/might a “complete blackness” profile picture represent?
It represents the embodiment of Zar’al’kthon, the primordial elder deity of life and death, beginning and the end, maker of time, father of darkness, and creator of all things. One dwelling in the void, one that watches, one that waits, one that will end us all. All hail Zar’al’kthon!
Alright, that’s bullshit.
This is my profile picture:
This image has been removed for violating Quora’s policy.
It is RGB 0x000000, 256×256, if I remember correctly. I wonder why Quora upscaled it.
What it means is:
- “I hate avatars”.
- “I hate default avatar too.”
Basically, “I went to my profile and removed the default picture. I don’t want an avatar, so you get nothing. “Nothing” is a black square”. So you can see that I wasn’t registered yesterday, and at the same time, I’m not playing the profile pic game.
It can be because they’re sad or feeling betrayed. I’ve done this when I felt betrayed by a lot of people. It’s when we can’t trust someone to open up. Or else it can be just for attention.
What does it mean when someone changes their profile picture to all-black?
-They could be deleting their discord app, or they already did
-They could be depressed and like trying to tell everyone that they are (this is the usual reason lmao)
-Could be a dare from another person
That’s all I can think of atm hope it helped

People might change their profile picture to completely black for various reasons. Some of the common reasons include:
- Mourning or remembrance: People may change their profile picture to complete blackness to express grief or to mourn the loss of someone or something.
- Solidarity: Sometimes, people may change their profile picture to complete blackness to show solidarity with a movement or cause. This can support the cause and raise awareness for it.
- Protest: Changing the profile picture to complete blackness can also be a protest against a particular policy, decision or event.
- Artistic expression: In some cases, people may change their profile picture to complete blackness as a form of artistic expression. It can be a way to convey a message or evoke an emotional response.
It is important to note that changing one’s profile picture to complete blackness does not necessarily have a universal meaning or significance. The reason for the change can vary from person to person and may only sometimes be apparent. If you are trying to understand why someone has changed their profile picture, you can ask them for more information or context.
Is it abnormal for a person to put a black picture as their Facebook profile picture for fun if there is nobody who died?

Why do some people never change and always keep/WhatsApp profile pictures? Are these kinds of people boring & lifeless?
Au contraire, these are some of the only people on Facebook/WhatsApp who might have a real life!
You must have heard people saying, “Get a life!” Well, these people have never heard that sentence in their lives. The fact that they don’t bother changing their profile pictures says that they don’t care what others think of them, nor are they interested in other people’s lives.
Some of the most lively and interesting people I’ve met in real life either didn’t have an account on Facebook or didn’t log into their accounts for large intervals if they had one. Many celebrities and movie stars don’t use Facebook. So many scientists and educators I know don’t want to use FB! This doesn’t make them boring, and it sure doesn’t make them “lifeless” (You might wanna update your grammar skills a little). If they use any social network, it is solely to interact with their relatives and immediate colleagues.

Just as topping your class doesn’t make you a genius, so too having a social network presence doesn’t make you cool.
–Me
Now sensing that you belong to the current “hip” and “west aping” generation, I’d say that if you have such a person in your friend list and you know that he has some hidden qualities, “Hold on to that mofo with all your life force and don’t let him go!”
Anybody can copy a few lines from an English sitcom and pretend to be interesting, but only a few are those rare gems that don’t bother about society and are the truest thing to an aspiration you can find.
– Again, Me.
A man who wants to lead the orchestra must turn his back on the crowd.
-Max Lucado
And if you ever wish to leave behind Facebook, WhatsApp and everything else you think obstructs you from achieving your ultimate goal, don’t even bother thinking about leaving them!
-Nike’s tagline (If you didn’t know)
Also, remember this quote by Margaret Thatcher:
A simple black profile picture can mean different things for various people. I have used a black profile picture on Facebook because it means I’m at my lowest. It represents me being in my darkest place, though they don’t know.
Again, a black profile picture can mean different things for various people.
What does black WhatsApp DP mean?
First, a person is keeping it because his/her friends are also the same.
But it symbolises to protest something.

Black DP was a protest symbolising the absence of women in the world. It was a message to the men that if women didn’t exist, what the world would be like? It would be like a black hole. So it was a day request to all women on WhatsApp to replace dp with a black colour to make men realise the importance of the existence of women. This was done after so many rape and murder cases happened recently.
Black DP or blank DP means a lot to the person’s feelings. If a first-person wants to express his sadness to the world about any critical issue like rape, murder or crime or anything, then he can put black dp on his WhatsApp so he is sad.
