Things I’ve learned:
- You may need a display-port or mini-display-port to HDMI adapter. These cost $10–$20.
- You should get a high-speed HDMI cable, again $10-$20.

- Make sure your TV can do 4:4:4 pixel format. Otherwise, you’ll get a crappy-looking text. For one of my TVs, I had to adjust it and my video card to HDR mode to get the full resolution. Looks great now!
- Integration could be more seamless in terms of auto-wake for the TV. I usually have to power it on with the remote or by hand when I use the machine for the first time on a given day.
- 50″ is too large. Bought one and tried it, but it was just too much. 40″ at arm’s length is pretty perfect.
- Once you have a 40″ 4k monitor, it’s almost impossible to do without.
I’d recommend using a TV as a computer monitor if you choose the TV carefully. If you spend more than $500, it’s because you want to, not because you need to. Make sure it supports 4k, 60hz, and 4:4:4 pixel format if you use it as a monitor.
